Meet Kochi man, a blackboard-chalk carving expert
Kochi, Feb 12 : A native of Mattanchery in Kochi has developed a unique art of carving sculptures out of blackboard chalks using a pin.
For the past 35 years A. B. Sainudeen has been taking drawing classes at a government school in Kochi, though he has never attended any professional artwork classes.
His chalk carvings began when one day during his teaching session he noticed a broken chalk piece, which appeared to him in an artistic angle.
"Once I was taking classes on drawing, a chalk from my hand fell down and got broken which appeared to me in a different shape, and suddenly I thought of doing some artwork to give more shape to it," said Sainudeen.
It takes hours and sometimes days to do this, as it requires high concentration and patience.
He never misses the tiniest details while engraving on the chalk piece and takes extreme care during its colouring.
He uses acrylic and oil paints to colour his masterpieces to give the exact look, which he does with help of a single haired brush.
Sainudeen has carved over 200 sculptors in various shapes and sizes ranging from the most famous celebrities like Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, artist M. F. Hussain and few depictions on environment, sea and musical instruments.
Sainudeen is now planning to carve few more celebrities, writers, artists and other things, so as to put up an exhibition of his works. (ANI)
