Medvedev calls for action on hopes for improved US-Russian ties

Medvedev calls for action on hopes for improved US-Russian ties Moscow - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Friday he hoped his first meeting with US President Barak Obama next month put into practice the desire voiced by both sides for a new era of relations.

"We are counting on such a 'reset' and hope to see it realized," Medvedev was quoted by news agency Interfax as saying.

Ties between Washington and Moscow fell to Cold War lows under Obama's predecessor George W Bush over US plans to site a missile defence system in Europe and Russia's war with US-ally Georgia in August.

But Russian Foreign Minster Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called for both countries' to slam "reset button" in their relations at a meeting earlier this month.

"I hope that this strange term, "reset" ... can really reflect the transformations which we would like to see," Medvedev said Friday.

Medvedev and Obama will meet in London on April 1 on the sidelines of the G20 summit. (dpa)
