McDonald’s and supplier Tyson Foods end ties with a Tennessee chicken farm

Animal rights activists have shot an undercover video of a Tennessee farm. After watching the video, McDonald's Corporation and Tyson Foods have ended ties with the farm. In the video, workers at the farm can be seen stabbing and stomping on chickens.

Mercy For Animals publicized the video at a news conference in Los Angeles. T&S Farm in Dukedom is the one where animals were killed with such cruelty. The farm was under contract with Tyson Foods that further supplies chicken meat to McDonald's, the world’s biggest fast-food chain.

Tyson spokesperson Worth Sparkman was of the view, “Animal well-being is a priority at our company and we will not tolerate the unacceptable animal treatment shown in this video”.

Sparkman said that members from the animal well-being team have been investigating the matter. But then also, they are going to end ties with the farm. McDonald's said that it is in support of Tyson’s decision. It also believes that the behaviour shown in the video is not at all acceptable.

McDonald's said that it is working with Tyson to know the complete details involved in the matter. An investigator for the Weakley County Sheriff's Office said that they have started the investigation into the matter.

The video shows three weeks of animal abuse at the farm. In the video, workers can be seen stepping on bird’s neck and putting them into cramped cages. Mercy for Animals has done more than 40 similar investigations.
