Mauritian Prime Minister meets Pranab Mukherjee
New Delhi, Jan 8: Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee here on Monday.
Ramgoolam, who is on a five-day visit to India, will be the chief guest at the Sixth Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD) beginning here today.
Mauritius has an Indian immigrant population of nearly 70 per cent.
The island off the southeast coast of Africa celebrates its national day on
March 12, as a tribute to Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The three-day brainstorming session of the expatriates will focus on how to leverage their contributions to their country of origin.
India's growing economy has attracted quite a lot of expatriates who have come with an intention of expanding business in the country.
"From business point of view, we all have business interests in India. South Africa was always on a lookout. It's just a matter of finding the right partnership and the right business that will work,” said Uday John, a businessman from South Africa.
“India's economy is growing very fast. It’s at nine per cent. I think India is going to be the next superpower of the world," John added.
Issues like empowerment of rural women, partnership opportunities, trade and business opportunities and investment infrastructure are likely to be discussed at the conference. (ANI)
