Maruti Sales Surge 15% In April
The country's largest passenger car maker, Maruti Suzuki India registered a sale growth of 15% in April 2009. It sold 71,748 units as compared to 62,336 units during the corresponding period last year.
A company statement said, "This is the fourth consecutive month of sales crossing the 70,000 units mark."
The company's recorded an increase of 9% in its domestic sales, which stood at 64,857 units from 59,539 units in the same period of the last year.
According to company reports, Maruti's oldest model M800 sales witnessed a decline of 47% at 2,345 units as against 4,458 units last year.
The company's A2 segment, which includes Alto, Wagon R, Zen Estillo, Swift and A-Star, grew by 9% at 46,817 units as against 43,121 units in 2008, while A3 segment comprising of SX4 and D'Zire, surged 69% during the month as compared to sales in April 2008.
In the MUV segment comprising Gypsy and Grand Vitara, the company announced a massive growth of 1,231% in sales during the month at 905 units as compared to 68 in April last year.
Shares of the company, (on April 29) closed the week at Rs 815.70, up 1.9%, on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The total volume of shares traded was 223,808 at the BSE. Current EPS & P/E ratio stood at 42.18 & 19.34 respectively. The share price has touched a 52-week high of Rs 855 and a 52-week low of Rs 428.40.
