New Delhi, Mar 11: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday sanctioned an assistance of two hundred thousand to Manjunath Kalmani who is hospitalised in the Safdarjung Hospital.

A senior officer of the Prime Minister’s Office handed over a cheque of sanctioned amount that was released from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the hospital authorities for Manjunath’s treatment.

The Prime Minister has extended his best wishes to Manjunath and his family.

After a Lucknow-based NGO offered to adopt the paralysed techie, a private hospital in Hubli, Karnataka, has announced that it could provide free treatment to him.

The hospital is at a small distance from Manjunath's hometown of Gangavati (Koppal district).

Manjunath was terminally crippled in May 2002.

He was paralysed neck down in a road accident in the US and was transported back to India on March 5 after his visa had expired and admitted at the Safdarjung Hospital.

Manjunath suffers from a number of debilitating medical problems. He is a quadriplegic, paralysed from neck down with a spinal cord injury of level C2 complete. He cannot breathe without ventilator support, has hypothyrodism, and Type 2 diabetes. He also suffers from chronic urinary infection, chronic abdominal pain with gastroparesis, depression and profound blood pressure variation. (ANI)
