Manmohan Singh handled 26/11 attacks like a strong leader, says Sonia Gandhi
Karimnagar (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 7 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh handled the 26/11 Mumbai attack as a strong leader.
"The handling of 26/11 Mumbai attack and crisis in Pakistan proved that Prime Minister has provided the nation with a strong leadership," Sonia Gandhi said while addressing a election rally here.
Gandhi also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani for handing over terrorists to hijackers in Afghanistan.
"You have a choice to make. On one side you have a Prime Minister who is a man of integrity and on the other side a BJP leader who talks of fighting terror but you know what happened during his rule," she added.
She said that during Advani's tenure as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, the parliament was attacked and dangerous terrorists were taken out from jail and sent to Afghanistan.
When asked about the Telangana issue, she said the Congress had no objection to the creation of a separate Telangana state.
"As far as Telangana is concerned, the Chief Minister has made a statement in the assembly and the Congress also said that it has no objection to the formation of a separate Telangana state and we will take up this issue on priority," she added.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson also listed out the achievements of the Congress, including the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, waiver of farmers' loans and the India-US nuclear deal. (ANI)
