Malaysian Deputy PM urges people to ignore Hindraf
Kuala Lumpur, Dec 11: Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has urged the people of the country, especially the leaders of political parties, to ignore the demands made by Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf).
"Who is Hindraf representing? We should not dance to its tune, " Najib said, adding that the group does not represent the real voice of the minority ethnic Indian community.
"Action can be taken against it, if it broke any law, and we have taken action against some of its members recently, " The Star quoted him, as saying.
Razak, who met Vice President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), criticised the comments made by People's Progressive Party president Datuk M. Kayveas.
Kayveas had earlier said that the protests by the Indian minority community were aimed against the MIC.
"His statement is his own opinion on the matter. I will ask him about it, " Najib added.
Terming the situation in the country as 'under control', Najib said that the people are confident about the measures taken by the Government to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, United Malays National Organization (Umno) Youth has regretted Hindraf's statement terming the former as its enemy.
The treasurer of the Umno Youth, Datuk Abdul Hamid Nazahar, accused the Hindraf of playing extremist politics.
"Umno Youth will prove that the struggle undertaken by Hindraf is not only rejected by Malays, but also other communities, " he said in a statement.
The group will soon launch a signature campaign against the street demonstration, which will be handed over to the nation's leaders. (ANI)
