Kuala Lumpur  - A Malaysian court fined a French climber nicknamed "Spiderman" 2,000 ringgit (540 dollars) Wednesday, a day after he scaled Malaysia's Petronas Twin Towers, one of the world's tallest buildings.

Alain Robert, who managed to sneak past security early Tuesday, successfully climbed the 88-storey landmark in Kuala Lumpur before he was caught by security officials and detained for trespassing.

Robert was charged Wednesday with criminal trespass and slapped with the fine.

Tuesday's feat was the 47-year-old's third and only successful attempt at scaling the towers, which once held the title as the world's tallest buildings.

His Malaysian fine is not the first and likely won't be the last for this daredevil climber as authorities rarely grant him permission for his stunts. In June, Roberts was fined 750 dollars for climbing Sydney's Royal Bank of Scotland building.

He has climbed more than 70 skyscrapers worldwide using his bare hands, including New York's Empire State Building, the Sears Tower in Chicago and the Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan. (dpa)
