Setting the pace for starting dialogue at a political level with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, Home Minister P Chidambaram has nominated Minister of State in the home ministry Ajay Maken and MoS (Health and Family Welfare) Dinesh Trivedi to head the panel but dismissed the dialogue offer made by Maoists, who he said had continued killing innocent people.

Chidambaram said the dialogue with the GJM would be held at a political level in New Delhi on March 18. Home Secretary GK Pillai, who held fort at the earlier talks with the GJM, would also be present.

The West Bengal government has also been asked to nominate two ministers for the tripartite talks, a senior government official said.

Hopes of peace talks with the Maoists have, however, vanished. The home minister said he found the 72-day peace offer reportedly made by Kishenji ‘bizarre’ considering Maoists had attacked a police patrol party in West Bengal just three hours after making the offer.

"I may point out that eleven lives have been lost including that of Inspector Ravi Lahan Mitra of police station Saranga, West Bengal," he said.

On Pakistan Chidambaram also regretted Pakistan government's move to allow LeT chief Hafiz Saeed to make "provocative and insidious" speeches.

"Based on the information that we have furnished, any responsible government will investigate the role of Hafiz Saeed. Far from investigating his role, Pakistani government is allowing him to make provocative and insidious speeches. That is deeply regretted.”

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao had handed over three dossiers to her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir on February 25.

On West Bengal CM Asked about a CD handed over to him by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Bannerjee containing provocative statements made by Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Chidambaram said he had spoken to the CM and had also written to him in this context.
