Maharashtra ties up with Microsoft for apps on social issuesThe state government in Maharashtra is partnering global software giant, Microsoft to develop apps related to social and civic issues.

The company will help the Government of Maharashtra in creating a platform for the civil service authorities to connect better with the citizens of the state and address their needs from the government departments. The initiative is a part of the government's plan to use technology for social good and tackle challenges.

Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary IT, Government of Maharashtra said, "App marketplaces are now proving to be viable platforms to host e-governance and socially relevant apps. Such apps can provide citizen-centric services in a secure manner, while ensuring increased transparency, reliability and efficiency in services."

Sanket Akerkar, Managing Director, Microsoft Corporation India pointed out that the several new devices are increasingly becoming popular in the world and apps and the cloud to power those apps will play an important role on those devices.  The company is working with 1.2-million developers and more than one thousand Independent Software Vendors to provide them with tools, technologies and training for preparing for competition in the high tech industry.
