London Assembly fuming fury on major retailersThe Councils must be provided with designated powers to oppose the planning request from the big retailers, as per the London Assembly.

According to a report by the assembly’s planning and housing committee, it is considered that the London mayor Boris Johnson might initiate the policies permitting borough councils to safeguard small shops from the blow of latest retail development.

The report further revealed that the Cornered Shops evaluates the plummet of local shops in London and appeals for modification to national and local planning policies to safeguard them.

Proposals also covers policies in the London plan to back the councils challenge developments that bully the local shopping centers, and a fresh planning class to safeguard the smaller retailers.

As per Jenny Jones, the deputy chair of the assembly’s planning and housing committee, the people in residential areas require local shops that they can walk in to. The mayor should guide on altering the planning system to authorize districts to take the control back from their high streets and protect local shops from more plummet.
