Lay into BP official criticized by Gulf mayors

Lay into BP official criticized by Gulf mayorsThey are not satisfied with the British oil company's response to the gulf spill, Gulf Coast mayors told a high-level BP official in Alabama.

CNN has reported that BP Senior Vice President Bob Fryar found himself under fire from the local officials during a news conference Saturday in Mobile.

It has been reported that Fryar's comments that the effort to funnel the leaking oil to a surface vessel was going "extremely well" and that he was "pleased" with the effort thus far didn't set well with Gulf Shores, Ala., Mayor Robert Kraft.

Kraft said, ""I don't know who represents you in our community, but I would love to have one of your guys go down and look at our beaches and tell me that what you see is effective and is working."

"If you sensed our frustration, you would have been here a lot sooner," says Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon.

Kennon further said, "You show up today, we don't even know you are coming. So what you say and what you do, Mr. Fryar, with all due respect, are two different things."

Fryar and Kennon met for about 45 minutes after the news conference, but the session didn't mollify the mayor.

Kennon also said that Fryar "made it very clear to us ... that (BP's) first obligation is their shareholders." (With Inputs from Agencies)
