Legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika had spent a night with the nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar, late Bhupen Hazarika's wife Priyamvada Patel said.

Priyamvada made the shocking revelation during an interview to an Assamese channel on Bhupen's death anniversary.

Bhupen's estranged wife said that Lata would visit their residence in Kolkata whenever she had come to the city. She added that the links between Bhupen and Lata were responsible for her separation from her husband thirteen years after marriage.

Speaking on the topic, she alleged, "She used to come and they used to be together the whole night in one of the three bedrooms. She was crazy about him."

She went on saying that when she asked Bhupen why he should be with Lata, he responded that if a musician wanted to come up, his songs have to be sung by Lata.

She claimed that several people in Assam knew about the illegal relationship between Bhupen and Lata but nobody could dare to speak about it.

The allegations angered not only the Lata's family, but also filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who had been Bhupen's companion for nearly forty years. Both parties are now preparing to drag Priyamvada to court.
