‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ Sweeps Four National Film Awards

The blockbuster movie ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ has won four awards at the ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ 54th national film awards on Tuesday.

Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ has been declared the best popular movie providing full entertainment. The film also won awards in the best lyrics category (Swanand Kirkire), best screenplay (Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Abhijat Joshi), and best supporting actor (Dilip Prabhavalkar, who portrayed Mahatma Gandhi in the film).

Madhur Bhandarkar won his second national award for the best director for his realistic film ‘Traffic Signal.’ Konkana Sen Sharma bagged the best supporting actress award for the film 'Omkara'. The Best Hindi Film award goes to Dibakar Bannerjee’s ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’.

Vishal Bhardwaj garnered a special jury award for direction. Gotham Ghose was selected as the best cinematographer for his brilliant work in ‘Yatra.’

The National Award for best feature film has gone to the Malayalam film ‘Pulijanmam’.

Veteran Bengali film actor Soumitra Chatterjee got the national award for best actor for his role in the Bengali film ‘Podokkhep,’ whereas Tamil actress Priyamani won the best actress award for ‘Paruthi Veeran.’

Malayalam film 'Pulijanmam' directed by Priyanandanan, won the honours for the best feature film.

‘Kabul Express’ the Hindi movie directed by Kabir Khan and Madhu Kaithapuram’s Malayalam movie ‘Ekantham’, shared the Indira Gandhi award for the best first film of a director.

National awards were not announced after 2005, as per the Supreme Court directions in connection with the controversies erupted over the award selection in that year.
