Knowing Warning Signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Can Help Save Lives

Sudden cardiac arrests at time can even lead to death of an individual. Now experts suggest that sudden cardiac arrests might not be as sudden as it has been thought so far. They said that its symptoms stars showing up weeks before.

As per reports approximately 350,000 people die every year from sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is when your heart malfunctions and stops beating.

Majorly this malfunction happens suddenly, but on might have symptoms for up to a month before it happens. Several people don’t take those symptoms seriously and end up in complications.

Researchers of the study published in the Anals of Inernal Medicine, studied cardiac patients and interviewed first responder’s family members. They found that 51% of people actually had experienced warning symptoms, which mainly involved chest pain.

Out of 839 patients studied, the most common symptoms among them were intermittent chest pain (angina) and pressure, shortness of breath, palpitations, ongoing influenza-like symptoms such as nausea and abdominal and back pain.

It was also found that 93% of individuals who experienced symptoms at some point again felt same symptoms 24 hours before the cardiac arrest.

It was surprised to find that only 19% of people sought for emergency care, and this group the survival rate was 32%. On the other hand the survival rate in group those who didn’t seek treatment for symptoms was only 6%.

Study authors suggest that during public education it is very necessary to talk about these symptoms and the importance of not waiting for help.
