Kingfisher employees struggling to make both ends meet

Kingfisher employees struggling to make both ends meetKingfisher employees continue to struggle to make both ends meet as there is no ray of hope of the grounded airline's revival. Flamboyant Vijay Mallya has so far tabled three separate revival plans to the civil aviation regulator but all the three plans failed to convince the regulator.

Many of beleaguered Kingfisher Airlines' employees, including pilots and engineers, has left the company to try their luck somewhere else; while many others are still with the company, hoping that it would revive.

The company has not paid salaries to its employees for around a year, forcing many to sell their assets to make both ends meet.

Praveen Gaekwad and his wife served Kingfisher airlines as pilots for more than six years. Over the past one year he sold his house, car and even his wife's jewellery to meet his family's expenses. The airline owes Gaekwad alone Rs 70 lakh (13 months of salary).

Sharing his owes, Gaekwad said, "The one reason why many of us haven't left is that this is a lot of money to let go of. Those who have quit haven't got their dues."

He added that the management told them that they were in talks with an investor to revive the airline, and they believed them.

Kingfisher owes more than Rs 220 crore to its nearly 3,000 current employees. Meanwhile lenders are struggling to recover loans of more than Rs 7,000 crore from the airline.
