Kashmir shutdown turns violentSrinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 11 : A shutdown called by the separatists here, turned violent today. The shutdown call was given by Syed Ali Shah Geelani to protest against the occupation of private lands by the army.

Streets were deserted and all shops and other establishments, including schools and colleges were closed in Srinagar.

The locals had to suffer, as the shutdown caused a lot of inconvenience to them.

"Early in the morning when I got up, my friends told me that today paper will be postponed but radio television etc. did not announce the same and I had to suffer a lot. I come from a far flung area," said an unidentified local.

There was clash between the locals and the police in Maisuma area, when the police tried to stop to locals from taking out a protest march.

The police had to use teargas to disperse the mob, as the protestors'' pelted stones at the police. (ANI)
