Kalyan Singh says goodbye to BJP
The Vice-president of BJP and former CM of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh, on Tuesday resigned from all party posts, saying he was feeling suffocated and painful in the party, in which he was persistently neglected and deliberately humiliated. Mr. Singh also resigned from Etah Lok Sabha seat.
Kalyan Singh’s resignation came two days after his much hyped meeting with Mulayam Singh, the president of Samajwadi Party. This is the second time when Kalyan has resigned from the party; first time he did in 1999, but this time Mr. Singh said, “He’ll not repeat the ‘political mistake’ of coming back to BJP.”
Hailing from the backward Lodh caste, Mr. Kalyan Singh said OBC leaders were not getting what they deserve in BJP. He said, “OBCs constitute 50 per cent of the population, yet there is no honour and place for OBC leaders in the BJP.”
Mr. Singh said that he was not a bonded labour of the BJP, but he has great regard for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for whom he will campaign, if he decides to contest election from Lucknow.
Mr. Singh rejected any possibility of joining any political party, and he also stated that he will no take “political sanyas,” instead he’s planning to contest from Etah, possibly as an Independent supported by the SP (and the Congress).
