Kallis, Amla rise in latest ICC rankings

Jacques KallisSouth African batsmen Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla have jumped to fourth and tenth place respectively in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for batsmen in the test matches released on Tuesday.

Kallis has gained four spots to leave behind his skipper Grame Smith who has dropped three places to be at the fifth spot. Kallis had scored 173 runs in the first test match against India in Nagpur.

Amla, who had scored his maiden double hundred in the Nagpur test match, has made into the top ten test batsmen for the first time in his career. Amla had scored unbeaten 253 runs against India to lead his team to victory by an inning and six runs.

Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is placed at the top spot followed by Mahela Jayawardena of Sri Lanka at the second place. South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has retained his top spot in the test rankings for bowlers.

India's off-spinner Harbhajan Singh slipped four places to be at the 12th place while fast bowler Ishant Sharma dropped seven spots to be at 22nd place. South African spinner Paul Harris jumped three places to be at the ninth place after taking four wickets in the Nagpur test match.
