Kaka: Our game against Italy is massive
Pretoria - Brazil midfielder Kaka said Saturday that their final group game in the Confederations Cup against Italy in Pretoria on Sunday is a massive game.
"We have won five world championships and they have won the World Cup four times. These are two very big teams and it is a classical game in world football," he told a news conference in Pretoria.
Asked if he agreed with Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon's assessment that they did not consider the Confederations Cup that important and that their failure would be measured on how they play against Brazil, rather than whether they are knocked out, Kaka said he did not agree.
"The Confederations Cup is very important to prepare for the World Cup and to see how national teams are preparing. Playing against Italy is a very big match for us.
"I do not think that it would not matter to Buffon if they are knocked out. I think, just like we are, they are thinking of winning the cup.
"At the last World Cup in 2006 they started poorly and then ended up winning the cup. This can be the case this time around too, so I would be very happy if we could knock them out."
Kaka, who will be joining Real Madrid for 94 million dollars from AC Milan at the end of the competition, said that he felt it was unfair to question Italy's ability after a midweek defeat against Egypt.
"Just three years ago they won the World Cup and now their ability is being questioned after one bad game. I think that is unfair."
Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar said that the fact that so many of the Brazilian players play in the Serie A make the game against Italy a very special one.
"This makes the rivalry even stronger. I hope they do not make any jokes when we arrive back in Italy and we have beaten them," he said.
The goalkeeper, who, together with Buffon, is often said to be the best custodian in the world, said it made no difference to him whether he was the best or Buffon was better.
"I concentrate on my game, whether some people think Buffon is the best or I am the best does not really make much difference," said Cesar.
The 29-year-old said he expected the Italian side to play much more attacking football than they have in previous games.
"They need to get a result as they do not want to worry about what the Egyptians do.
"That will make it better for us and if we have more space our quick players like Kaka and Robinho can use this space going forward. But we do not really need to worry too much about Italy, we need to concentrate on our own strengths," Cesar said.
Brazil coach Carlos Dunga did not agree with him though, saying that he believes the Azzurri will play their normal game.
"Italy are used to playing in important matches. I think they will use their own style, which is playing very compact and waiting for mistakes from the opponents," Dunga said.
Manchester City star Robinho said that he believed the game against Italy would be a good one.
"We have been improving as the competition goes on and I am confident that we will improve even more."
Ahead of their final games, Brazil top Group B with six points, while Italy and Egypt have three points each. The US have yet to secure a point.
All four sides can still advance to the semi-finals, with Brazil, Italy and Egypt even having a chance to go through if they lose their final game.(dpa)
