Kailash Satyarthi presents Nobel Peace Prize medal to President
New Delhi, Jan 7 : Kailash Satyarthi presented his Nobel Peace Prize Medal to President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, dedicating the honour bestowed upon him to the nation.
According to a release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Mukherjee said he was very happy that Sathyarthi received the award and welcomed Satyarthi's gesture of presenting the medal to him, adding that the Nobel Prize medal will be kept on display at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum.
The President said this was an unusual gesture because most former winners of the Nobel Prize from India had kept their awards in their respective institutions, including Rabindra Nath Tagore, whose medal was housed in Viswa Bharati at Santiniketan.
President Mukherjee also recalled that Dr. C. V. Raman, in his Nobel Prize acceptance speech, had also dedicated his award to the nation and seen the prize as recognition of the scientific talent of India.
The President commended Satyarthi for the excellent work he was doing and urged him to continue his endeavours in this regard. (ANI)
