J-K Muslim League chairman arrested

Kashmir tense during memorial for slain separatist leader Srinagar, Sept 4 : The chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League Masrat Alam was arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police from Haft Chinar area here today, the sources said.

According to reports, Alam was travelling in an autorickshaw and was overpowered by the SOG personnel who had been following him. After arrest he was taken to a nearby Air Cargo detention centre.

Alam had been evading arrest since August 24, when several top separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohammad Yasin Malik were arrested by police to thwart their planned march to Lal Chowk on August 25. (ANI)
