Japan's currency reserves cross 1-trillion-dollar threshold
Tokyo - Japan's foreign reserves topped 1 trillion dollars in November for the first time in four months, buoyed by sharp gains in US Treasury bond prices, the Finance Ministry said Friday.
Japan held 1.002 trillion dollars in foreign reserves by the end of November, up 25.14 billion dollars from the previous month.
The country holds the most foreign reserves worldwide after China.
The rise in US treasury bond prices in November more than cancelled out losses as euro-based assets declined as the euro's value fell against other currencies, the ministry said.
The world's second-largest economy's foreign exchange reserves consist mainly of securities and deposits denominated in foreign currencies, gold and IMF reserve positions and special drawing rights. (dpa)
