Tokyo - The unemployment rate rose last month in Japan to 4.2 per cent, up 0.2 percentage points points from a month earlier, the Japanese government announced early Tuesday.

Preliminary data showed that the number of people seeking work rose by 230,000 from July to 2.72 million jobseekers last month.

There were 86 jobs available for every 100 jobseekers. (dpa)
