Japan market ends morning lower on Shanghai market falls
Tokyo - The Tokyo market ended morning trading lower Wednesday following losses on markets in mainland China earlier in the day as investors turned away from aggressive trading.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average dipped 24.46 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 10,260.5, despite rising commodity prices and analysts upgrading the prospects of Japan's carmakers.
Stocks of Sanyo Electric Co soared 14 per cent at one point, following reports that the company was to supply batteries for hybrid cars produced by Toyota Motor Corp.
The broader-based Topix index was also down 0.34 points, or 0.04 per cent, to 949.32.
On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 94.85-90 yen, down from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 95.09-11 yen.
The euro traded at 1.4165-70 dollars, up from late Tuesday's quote of 1.4126-28 dollars, and at 134.37-42 yen, up from 134.33-37 yen. (dpa)
