Intel showcases gesture-control ultrabooks at CES
Chip maker, Intel planning to display its new gesture-controlled ultrabook range at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas.
The new devices will come with tilt sensors and touch-free credit card readers, while Intel indicated that 75 laptop models are under development for the year. Intel announced at the press event of the CES 2012 that it will launch one the biggest marketing campaign in nearly a decade to promote the ultrabook format in April.
The focus on ultrabooks may help company offset the slowdown in desktop PC sales in the global markets. Mooly Eden, the vice president and general manager of Intel's PC group demonstrated the user-experience offered by the ultrabooks in his presentation at the event.
He also said that Intel is working with its partners to reduce costs and boost screen sizes, some of the concerns that have prevented the devices from attracting customers in eth market until now.
"People want their device to be nice, small, sleek, sexy... they want to be proud of it. There's nothing wrong with loving your computer if it's a great computer," Mr Eden said.
He expects most ultrabooks to come with touchscreens that in the near future they might be controlled by touch-free gestures or by tilting the machine. The integration of the near field communication technology will allow users to swipe their credit card over their ultrabooks.
