Intel, Infineon To Develop SIM Chips Jointly

IntelBerlin: Intel has collaborated with Infineon in order to build up SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) chips for mobile phones.

German semi-conductor giant, Infineon said that it would be providing microchips used in each SIM card.

The mass production would be started by 2009. The companies do not provide financial details on the project.

“By late 2008, the new USB interface of SIM cards will enable additional demanding and data-intensive mobile applications, services and over-the-air downloads,” the companies said.
