‘Insane or convicted person could become Pak President without Article 63’
Lahore, Sep 23 : If Article 63 of the Constitution did not apply to the President, even an "insane" or convicted person could become President, said former judge Tariq Mehmood on Geo TV’s "Great Debate on Presidential Election".
He said that if two provincial assemblies were dissolved before the election, the country’s political scenario would become "dangerous".
Musharraf’s lawyer Ahmad Raza Kasuri added that Article 43 – about conditions disqualifying a presidential candidate – was rendered irrelevant by Article 41(2)b.
He said that dissolution of any provincial assemblies would not affect the election’s legal validity, but could have political ramifications, the Daily Times reported. (With inputs from ANI)
