In-form Spain pleased to return to Vienna
Vienna - Spain will return Wednesday to Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadion for their last match of 2009, against hosts Austria.
It was in this stadium that La Seleccion won the Euro 2008 final in splendid style, beating Germany 1-0 on a handsome goal from Fernando Torres.
The Liverpool striker will miss Wednesday's match through injury, but the other Spaniards are looking forward to returning to Vienna.
"Vienna is a city with special memories for us," said captain Iker Casillas on Sunday.
"It was there, last year, that we finally managed to win something important."
Casillas, 28, earned his 100th cap in Saturday's hard-fought 2-1 defeat of Argentina, a win which has confirmed Vicente del Bosque's team as one of the favourites for the World Cup.
Left-back Joan Capdevila said on Sunday that "we are in the right line, winning matches and enjoying ourselves, but we know from experience that a slip-up could arrive at any moment, when you least expect it."
The veteran left-back added that "Argentina are a tough team... and we had to fight as well as play well to beat them."
A pleasant surprise for Del Bosque is that none of his players sustained injury on Saturday, despite the roughness of the Argentine defenders.
Even so, he is likely to ring the changes against Austria.
Jose Reina will probably replace Casillas in goal, Alvaro Arbeloa and Raul Albiol will come into the defence, Cesc Fabregas into midfield and Alvaro Negredo into attack.
In addition, Del Bosque is likely to give a first start to Jesus Navas. The little Sevilla right-winger - who seems to have finally overcome his anxiety attacks - made his debut as a late sub against Argentina - and twice came close to scoring.
Del Bosque gave his players a well-earned break on Sunday. On Monday they will have a light training session in Madrid, on Tuesday they will fly out to Vienna. (dpa)
