Indian population in Malaysia on decline
Kuala Lumpur, June 10 : The Indian population in Malaysia is on the decline and action must be taken to stop this, Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Samy Vellu has said.
He said the current Indian population stood at 7.8 percent and this was expected to fall to seven percent in five years, the Star Online reported.
Samy Vellu was speaking to reporters after opening Pahang MIC’s 62nd annual delegates conference in a hotel in Genting Highlands on Monday.
He said currently, the Government gave allocations based on the population of the Indian community.
Youth and Sports Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a multi-purpose sports complex would be built in every state constituency, regardless of whether it was under Barisan Nasional (BN) or the Opposition.
He said the complexes would be called Gelanggang Rakyat and that about RM120mil had been allocated to build them in stages, beginning next month. (ANI)
