Indian police man killed in Hyderabad
According to the reports, a police man was killed Friday in the Indian city of Hyderabad as the anniversary of the bombing of a Muslim mosque approaches.
The Hindustan Times has reported that two officers were wounded in the shooting. Witnesses said three masked men on motorcycles carried out the shooting.
The Hindu also said that Constable V. Ramesh died in the ambulance taking him to Osmania General Hospital. The wounded police officers were expected to recover.
The three officers were members of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police. They were on patrol in the Old City to prevent community violence in the days leading up to the anniversary of the 2007 bombing at the Mecca Masjid.
It was reported that investigators found a compact disc apparently left by the attackers. On the disc, a group identifying itself as Tehrik-e-Galba Islam took responsibility for shooting the police officers and said the attack was an act of revenge for the 2007 bombing.
Last year a police officer was killed on the second anniversary.
A terrorist known as Vicaruddin may have planned both killings. Vicaruddin, who formerly lived in the Old City, escaped during an arrest attempt three years ago, Hyderabad Police Commissioner A. K. Khan told the Hindustan Times. (With Inputs from Agencies)
