Indian Currency Ends Lower By 16 Paise Versus US CurrencyIndian currency on Friday declined by 16 paise to end the week at 46.77 versus the US currency, as compared to its last previous closure at 46.61 on account of continued demand from bankers.

Traders at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (FOREX) made this announcement.

The Indian unit lost nine paise during the opening trade following a mixed trend in Asian currencies.

However, benefits in domestic equity stocks prevented its sharp decline, they added.

A wide fluctuation was seen in rupee as it registered the day's high and low at 46.84 and 46.62 per USD respectively.

The central bank (RBI) fixed the reference rate for the US Dollar at Rs 46.80, up by six paise as against its last rate of 46.74.

Even, the Euro also gained 90 paise to Rs 60.37 per unit as against its previous close of Rs 59.47 per unit.

Six-month forward premium of dollar also recorded higher at 4.00/4.02 against 3.95/3.97, the previous day, and 12 months registered at 3.36/3.38 compared to 3.32/3.34, the previous day.

The rates of major global currencies against rupee were Euro at 60.80/60.82 (59.95/59.97) and Pound at 71.92/71.94 (71.66/71.68) and Yen at 54.02/54.04 (53.17/53.19), brokers added.
