India-bashing spree in Chinese media

Manmohan SinghSections of the government-run Chinese media have again ramped up aggressive rhetoric against India, a day after Beijing expressed “strong dissatisfaction” over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent Arunachal visit.

The Global Times, a nationalist English tabloid affiliated to the official People’s Daily newspaper, called Singh’s visit “provocative”, warned India of “dangerous consequences” and said a breakthrough in border talks was unlikely soon.

“China favours peaceful resolution of territorial disputes... India, however, will make a fatal error if it mistakes China’s approach for weakness,’’ warned the Global Times editorial.

“Indian trek into Tibet dissatisfies Beijing”, headlined the State-run China Daily, a mouthpiece of Beijing’s foreign policy. It quoted analyst Sun Shihai saying India made such “risky” moves to seek international recognition of its “so-called sovereignty over the disputed areas”.
