India Win by 170 Runs To Level Series

India Win by 170 Runs To Level Series It was a really happy Sunday for India, as it won the second test match defeating Sri-Lanka by 170 runs to level the series 1-1. Sri Lanka needed 307 to win against India, but could not do so, as the Indian team displayed a fine performance of endurance and expertise.

The dejected home captain of Sri Lanka, Mahela Jayawardene, said that losing three early wickets in their second innings was responsible for the team's debacle.

To win, Sri Lanka needed a good start, but with Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan struck early reducing them to 10 for three within four overs in the second innings, the team had no chance to win.

Jayawardene reported, “Batting first would have been ideal though I don't think toss alone was crucial. Though it was not easy to chase down 307, I thought we could have achieved it. It's always important to get a good start when you chase, which is something we did not get. That is probably where we lost the game”.

However, Jayawardene felt that Ishant did an excellent job with the new ball. He added that Sri Lanka would do well to learn a lesson from the defeat.
