India tax case will not affect deal with Microsoft, says NokiaFinish company, Nokia has said that that the pending tax case in India is not likely to affect the deal with software giant, Microsoft under which the company sold its handset division to the American company.

Nokia said that the developments in the Rs 21,153-crore tax liability case in India will not affect the timing of the closure of the deal with Microsoft. Microsoft had agreed to acquire the devices and services businesses of Nokia in a deal valued at $7.2 billion in September of 2013. The software giant acquired the phone-manufacturing division to expand its presence in the mobile handset market to take on the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google

"Nokia would like to stress that recent developments in India related to ongoing tax proceedings are not expected to affect the timing of the closing nor the material deal terms of the anticipated transaction between Nokia and Microsoft, announced on September 3, 2013," Nokia said in a statement late Friday night.

Nokia has been the leader in mobile phones for 14 years and has been selling mobile phones since 1982. However, Nokia has struggled to compete against other smartphones makers in the market.
