India successfully tests surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile Akash
The Indian defense forces successfully conducted a specified trail of surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile Akash.
The test, which was conducted from a defence base off the Odisha coast, was the first after the production of the missile started for the Indian Army as well as the Indian Air force. According to defense officials, the indigenously developed missile with its full operational configurations was tested from a specially made launch pad at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore district.
The missile was launched at about 11.08 am as per the user specifiel requirements. The Air Force wanted the missile to be launched from a specially made launching pad as to be able to analyze a real time situation.
The missile launched few minutes after the target, an unmanned aircraft was flown from the launching complex-II at the ITR. The missile precisely hit a toe body suspended from the unmanned aircraft. The missile travelled a distance of 7.3 km before hitting the target.
Sources said that the missile would boost eh defending capabilities of the country and said that the tests proved the flight consistency and effectiveness of Akash.
