India PC sales rise 4.9% in third quarter, IDC
According to the latest figures released, the total PC shipments in India rose by 4.9 to 2.99 million units compared to the previous month.
The data also showed that the total shipments fell 5.4 per cent from the same quarter of the previous year. The consumer demand rebounded in the quarter as the consumers in the country continued to spend despite a global economic slowdown and high inflation, according to a new report released by IDC.
Kiran Kumar, senior analyst at IDC said, "Consumer demand for Notebooks is emerging as the sole bright spot in India's PC market, even as the commercial PC market continues to be bucked down by economic slowdown. Uncertain investment environment continues to be a major letdown for commercial PC buyers who remained to be cautious with their spending in Q3 2012."
Lenovo continued to lead the Indian market with a market share of 16.9 per cent in the third quarter. HP was on the second spot with a market share of 15.6 per cent and Acer was on the third position with a market share of 15.5 per cent during the quarter.
Kumar noted that the implementation of ELCOT Notebook project helped Lenovo and Acer remain in the leading position while HP remained on the second position due to its success in the consumer PC market.
