India offers a $35 computer

India-35-computerIndia has released a tablet that is priced at $35.

This price is considered to be only a 'twentieth' of the cost of Apple's iPad models, and is proffered as part of nationwide offering that is being pushed by Indian government in lieu of betterment of the literacy rate across the nation.

The best news about this device is that it will be come down to an offering of $10 per piece as stated by the human resources department.

The device has been developed by Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science and is named as Sakshat tablet, and is aimed to be released by 2011 and will offer touchscreen abilities, PDF reader, an internet browser and a webcam.

The tech specs seem to be unknown but the snapshots it is stated that it will be 7 to 10-inch color screen, a 16:9 form factor, possibly 2GB flash memory, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a power consumption of 2W plus it will run Linux.

In addition to the above features it will come with an additional solar charging option to offer power to rural areas where there is a dearth of electricity.
