India and RIM can find a way out, says Canada govt.
Research in Motion, the makers of BlackBerry is having issues with the Indian government pertaining to the sharing of security related issues.
And now, the Canadian government has got involved with the whole thing. It said that they are sure that some way could be found out and that it can be done soon. This was said by Canadian Trade Minister Peter Van Loan after he met his Indian counterpart.
India has given a deadline of two-months to RIM to provide its intelligence services access to BlackBerry's encoded data.
Peter said that India and Canada are currently negotiation with each other. The agreement between the two countries is that Canadian police will be interpreting telephone calls, emails and also text messages that are sent via Blackberry, under a judicial warrant.
Since the same already goes on in Canada, the same can be easily replicated in India as well, the minister said.
He added that while on one front it will protect the privacy of the users, it will also 'allow legitimate security interests to be represented."
There are presently 1.1 million RIM users in India.
