Imran says new US Pak policy will only result in army killing more citizens

Imran says new US Pak policy will only result in army killing more citizens Lahore, Apr. 2 : Cricketer turned politician Imran Khan has strongly opposed US aid saying the assistance being offered by Washington has resulted in the Pak Army killing its own civilians.

Khan termed the US aid as `stringed', and one which would not serve the real purpose of establishing peace in the region.

Referring to Barack Obama's revamped strategy for Pakistan, Khan said the new policy was not much different from the US strategy earlier, as the performance oriented aid would result in more killing of its own people by the Pak army, resulting in further destabilisation of the country.

" It would have disastrous consequences for economy, for army, for intelligence agencies and above all for the citizens of Pakistan," he said.

Talking to media persons here, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief said that it was because of the so-called US led `War on Terror' in the region that Pakistan is facing an unprecedented threat of extremism.

He urged the leadership of the country to devise a policy to tackle the homegrown terrorism, which is taking dangerous proportions and is also threatening country's existence.

Khan said that the problem in the region could not be solved through a military offensive, rather dialogue and talks should be given preference to search for an answer to the impending crisis.

"There are 1.5 million armed tribesmen, and without their cooperation the war against terror could never be won," The News quoted Khan, as saying.

Khan added that the new US policy for Afghanistan and Pakistan indicated a complete failure of Pakistan's foreign policy. (ANI)
