Since his father Bal Thackeray has fallen ill, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray has not been able to prepare himself and the party for the Lok Sabha election.

Thackeray has been in Lilavati Hospital since February 26, after suffering from fever and infection. Uddhav is at the hospital by his father, and to his Bandra residence only for a bath before returning to the hospital.

Uddhav had to skip a meeting with party officials on February 26 after Thackeray was rushed to the hospital. He also cancelled a rally in Jalgaon on March 1. Normally, Uddhav meets a number of party workers daily but nowadays, he has been meeting only the VIP visitors who call on the senior Thackeray.

Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut, however, denied that the party’s preparedness for the election has been slowed down as Uddhav is engaged in serving his father.

Munde is farmers’ leader for BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to promote its national general secretary Gopinath Munde as a leader of farmers to attract rural voters.

The BJP has published a booklet on the recent rallies that Munde addressed in the state’s 13 cotton and sugarcane growing districts. The rallies were part of the party’s ‘Shetkari Sangharsh Abhiyan’.

The booklet, which carries Munde’s speeches and his interaction with the farmers during the movement, promotes him as a leader of the farmers.

Munde asserted that he was the leader of farmers. “Farmers’ problems will be one of the major issues during the campaign in rural areas. I had rallied among the farmers in 1995. Will not you give me some credit in bringing the Sena-BJP alliance to power in 1995?” he added.
