New Delhi, Oct 27 : Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal PV Naik, today said that the current Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) has to be streamlined and simplified.

Efforts towards the revision of the present procurement policies are going on and the DPP 2009 is expected to be out by November 1, 2009, said Air Chief Marshal Naik.

He was speaking at a session organised jointly by the Centre for Air Power Studies and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

ACM Naik stated that India has shown to the world that it has intellectual prowess to move forward.

“The Indian defence Industry still faces the challenges of developing core competencies and attaining self reliance. Therefore the government, PSUs and private players need to work together and interact in a more pragmatic and practical manner to achieve defence objectives,” he added.

He further stressed on the need for the industry to brainstorm for technology identification in the backdrop of short shelf life and rapid obsolesce.

ACM Naik listed need for strengthening the domestic industry, which can be engaged to contribute towards the need of defence in the domains of metallurgy, UAVs, NFDs, turbine blades, communication equipments, simple microchip, etc.

The Indian Air Force Chief also said that the Air force would like to sustain on a domestic industry for its entire shelf life. (ANI)
