Hyundai develops new egg shaped electric powered car

Hyundai develops new egg shaped electric powered carSouth Korean automotive giant, Hyundai has developed a new egg-shaped car powered by electric engine, which will be able to fit into narrow spaces in congested urban centres.

The new Hyundai E4U, which stands for four Es namely; evolution, electricity, eco-friendliness and egg, will have a top speed of 18 miles per hour. The top of the car appears to be a futuristic space helmet for the passengers. The vehicle has been designed to allow people to navigate congested urban roads and it is designed for one person only.

The company said that the car’s small size and its foldable rear legs will allow the users to park cars in narrow parking spots easily. The new E4U has a base hemisphere that is powered by a 24 volt, 500-watt battery. The two rear wheels ensures balance in the car and also gives an egg shaped design. Both the speed and steering are controlled by one electric motor in the hemisphere structure, which makes the car lighter and simpler to drive.

The E4U was displayed at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show. It is the winner of the company’s Group R&D Center's contest, 'IDEA festival 2012.'
