Hyderabad Based Pharma Company Guilty for Illegal Trials on Women
Pharmacy Company of Hyderabad practiced unauthorized drug trials on the native women of Palnadu. State government’s permission is required before these tests, but the company performed the test without any prior permission.
The company is charged for experimenting the drugs of breast cancer on the illiterate women. Two men, namely Shaikh Jameela and Kommu Karunamma are in police custody. The culprits were found guilty of trying new drugs on the women for almost three months. The women were not even aware what was happening with them. They were paid amount between Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 10,000 for such trials.
Many women experienced sensitive joint pains, throat infections and inflammation in arms. Six women were admitted to Guntur’s Government Hospital.
Shaik Bibi, a victim, who underwent the trial, told that they got only Rs 9,000, but were promised for huge amount. She told that they met many women from North India as well, but were not allowed to talk to them.
According to the sources, "Some middlemen engaged by the company take the illiterate women directly to the lab. This has been going on for some time now".
M. Gopi Naik, District Medical and Health Officer stated that strict action will be taken against the company as it is guilty of breaching the laws.
