It could be a reality in next five decades that humans would be entering into sexual relationships with robots. The phenomenon is known as Robophilia, meaning sexual attraction to robots. Researchers have raised this possibility as by the given time period, attitudes would also evolve with technology.

With change in attitude, people may fall in love and enter into sexual relationships with robots. Dr Driscoll, a leading authority on the psychology of sex and relationships, said that 'sex tech' is already advancing at fast pace.

As per Driscoll, physical relationship possibility is there. Currently as well, one can order a mannequin partner online. Dr Driscoll, from the University of Sunderland, was of the view that when one thinks of issues like virtual reality and robotic sex then he thinks it in the context of current norms. But if social norms of sex are considered that existed 100 years ago then things have changed a lot.

"As virtual reality becomes more realistic and immersive and is able to mimic and even improve on the experience of sex with a human partner; it is conceivable that some will choose this in preference to sex with a less than perfect human being", said Dr. Driscoll.

Researchers were of the view that due to lack of human contact, there are chances that people may get dependent on technology and some may even choose a robotic partner.
