Hugh Jackman Again undergoes Treatment for Skin Cancer
Once again, Hugh Jackman has got treated for skin cancer on his nose. On Monday, the Wolverine star used Instagram for sharing a bandaged post-op photo of him.
The 47-year-old star wrote in the caption, “An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups”. PEOPLE came to know from Jackman's rep that the procedure was a success.
Jackman's rep said that the star had a basal cell removed on Monday morning, and that the margins were clear and he is alright.
This isn’t the first time that the actor has used social media to caution against skin cancer. The most recent post has marked his third post-op picture in three years, and fourth procedure on the star’s nose.
The actor got the first treatment for basal-cell carinoma in November 2013. He shared a picture online, wherein his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, had motivated him to get the ‘mark’ checked. In May 2014, he shared another photo.
Last year, Jackman spoke to PEOPLE about his fight with skin cancer, during which he admitted that he got shocked to know about his diagnosis.
He said that it is always a bit shocking to hear the word 'cancer'. He said that being an Australian, it's a quite common thing, and he never wore sunscreen growing up thus was a prime candidate for it. Besides, the spot on his nose, the star has also had skin cancer cells removed from his shoulder.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, basal-cell carcinoma is the single most common type of cancer. In the US, nearly 3 million cases are diagnosed annually. It nearly never spreads beyond the lesion location but can be disfiguring if let it grow.
