Hong Kong cop accused of multiple sex attacks in police station
Hong Kong - A detective constable appeared in a Hong Kong court Tuesday accused of sex attacks on four young women inside one of the city's police stations.
Leung Lai-chung, 29, first appeared in court last week charged with raping a 19-year-old theft victim after she went to the police station to report her stolen purse.
Three other young women later came forward to accuse Leung of indecently assaulting them at the same station in Hong Kong's inner-city Mongkok district.
All the alleged offences took place in a 10-day period between November 14 and 24 before Leung was arrested on the complaint of rape, the court heard.
No plea was taken at Tuesday morning's hearing and Leung was remanded in custody. He was also charged with a further offence of accessing a police computer with dishonest intent.
At Leung's first court appearance, prosecutors claimed he had raped a theft victim in the identity parade room of the police station last Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Leung obtained the woman's personal details from a police computer after she came to the station to report a stolen purse.
He phoned her twice asking her to return to the police station for what he claimed were further interviews and both times she came with her boyfriend, a preliminary hearing was told.
On the second occasion, the boyfriend was told by the officer to leave and the woman was then allegedly raped. She returned home and told her boyfriend what happened, and they reported the offence.
Leung is alleged to have then sent a text message to the woman offering her 100,000 Hong Kong dollars (12,900 US dollars) to drop the charges. (dpa)
