High-end SUVs to get cheaper
It is believed that the dreams of owning a high-end SUV will soon be very affordable for many enthusiasts in the Indian market. As luxury carmakers plan to assemble them in India to crimp cost and high duties to attract consumers at aggressive prices, it is expected that the price of the several models will come down over the next one year.
Be it BMW, Audi, Tata-Land Rover, Hyundai, Renault or Volkswagen, mostly all the auto majors are planning to make their high-end sports utility vehicles in India.
It is to be mentioned here that the move will surely allow the respective SUVs to be priced at the sub-Rs 30 lakh price band.
Because of the 110% duty on such imported vehicles, the current price band hovers around the Rs 40 Lakh mark but if components are imported and assembled locally it attracts a 65% duty.
Sandeep Singh, deputy MD (marketing), Toyota Kirloskar recently said that the success of Fortuner has been much above the expectations of the company.
Notably, Toyota was the first to start the chain with its Fortuner SUV.
