Hesson not expecting 'miracles' from Vettori on return to Kiwi Test squad

Hesson not expecting 'miracles' from Vettori Wellington, Nov 26 : New Zealand cricket team coach Mike Hesson is not expecting any miracles from Daniel Vettori, but he believes that the veteran spinner could play a key role in his record-setting Test appearance.

Vettori has made a surprise comeback to the five-day format after two years out with injury, to make the team to play the third Test against Pakistan in Sharjah on Wednesday. It would mark the 35-year-old's 112th Test appearance for New Zealand, belatedly breaking the deadlock he had enjoyed with fellow former skipper Stephen Fleming.

Vettori received a standing ovation from the team as he was presented with his cap.

As the New Zealand lineup was confirmed with Vettori replacing Jimmy Neesham in allrounder's role, Hesson said that it's a really special moment for everybody, Stuff. co. nz reported.

Hesson claimed that he knows for Vettori, it was pretty emotional getting that cap for a record time but added that it was really special for everybody in the room. He said that the players and support staff are really proud to be there.

Vettori now becomes part of a rare three-spin bowling attack as the Black Caps look to exploit a pitch that skipper Brendon McCullum referred to as more glass than grass.

It is expected to deteriorate as the Test goes on and should be ripe for the spinners to prosper. Vettori now has the chance to add to his 360 Test wickets, bowling his left arm orthodox alongside Ish Sodhi's leg spin and Mark Craig's off spin.

New Zealand were 1-0 down in the series after being humbled in the opening Test and drawing the second. They need to win in Sharjah to level the series.

Hesson said that hopefully it's a big test match for Vettori, adding that it's going to be a team effort and the all rounder would certainly be part of that.

The coach also said that they are not expecting miracles, but admitted that Vettori is a fine player. He said that the all rounder is crafty and just being around the players and being able to pass on that experience in those conditions is going to be huge.

Hesson also said that Vettori might not bowl a huge amount of overs but the overs that he bowls would be challenging and he would also help develop New Zealand's other spinners out there as well. (ANI)
